In the heart of Banaras, tucked inside the quiet corridors of time, stands a house over a hundred years old—its doors once opening to family meals and children’s laughter, now welcoming patrons in search of the perfect weave. In 1969, that house was transformed by Shri Shiv Bhagwan Poddar into a saree gaddi—a sacred space of handloom heritage, where business wasn’t just about selling fabric, but preserving a piece of Banaras.
That humble beginning grew into Poddar Saree Industries, a name etched in the hearts of generations who trusted us with their most precious moments—weddings, heirlooms, celebrations, rituals. People didn’t just come to buy; they came to belong.
In 1994, the legacy was nurtured further when Shri Ashish Poddar, our father, joined the business. With him came not just continuity, but vision—a deeper commitment to the artisans, to honesty, and to expanding the quiet trust we had built across Banaras.
By 2008–2009, the deep-rooted faith of the community led to a special honour: we were invited to be a part of the Banarasi Vastra Association, a testament to our authenticity and contribution to the weaving culture of the city.
And then came Hikayat.
In 2024, the third generation—Vatsal and Vanshika—stepped in, not to change the story, but to carry it forward. They didn’t rename the legacy—they gave it a voice.
Hikayat Banaras is not a rebranding.
It is the baby of Poddar Saree Industries, born from the same values, raised on the same ethics, and grounded in the same soil.
